Lions to snap up Stormers speedster

Head coach Ivan van Rooyen is reportedly close to bolstering the Lions backline corps with a Stormers winger and former Vodacom Bulls playmaker.

With Springbok flyer Edwill van der Merwe off to the Sharks, the Lions have moved swiftly to secure former Blitzboks speedster Angelo Davids, according to Rapport.

The 25-year-old Davids, who has made 37 appearances for the Stormers since 2020, is expected to run out in a Lions jumper in the 2025 Currie Cup.

The Lions are also understood to be in advanced talks with flyhalf Chris Smith, currently playing for Oyonnax in France. A reliable goal-kicker, Smith (30) could link up with the Pride for the Currie Cup if the deal is finalised soon.

Van Rooyen has already added Sharks wing Eduan Keyter to his ranks and signed promising schoolboy stars Ethan Adams, Sherwin Buys and David Hayidakis.
