MK Party lodges complaint over voters’ roll at ward in Polokwane – SABC News

The uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MK Party) in Limpopo has lodged a complaint with the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) over the voters’ roll at Ward 13 at Seshego, in Polokwane.

This is ahead of an upcoming by-election next month. The ward became vacant when the former councilor was expelled due to misconduct.

The party alleges that about 3 500 voters on the voters’ roll are not residents of the ward. MK Party provincial convener Charmaine Nel says they plan to contest the election.

“We submitted an objection with the IEC objecting to the elections of Ward 13 until such time that the voters’ roll has been fixed and only the people that are supposed to be voting in Ward 13 are put on the voters’ roll,” says Nel.

Nel says the voters’ roll of Ward 13 needs to be fixed.

“That is the problem that we are having and we intend to contest the elections,” she adds.

The IEC’s provincial electoral officer Nkaro Mateta says they are investigating the matter.

“They are now saying several of our voting stations are not part of Ward 13. IEC can never make a mistake and include voting stations that are not expected to be part of Ward 13. It’s quite surprising that MKP is using outdated information to lodge its objection. They need to check their records properly. They continue to spread misinformation,” says Mateta.
