Cold front set to impact Western and Northern Cape from Wednesday to Saturday
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a warning as a cold front is expected to sweep through the Western Cape and Northern Cape on Wednesday morning, bringing not only a bitter chill but also hazardous sea conditions.
The cold front is set to move in swiftly, with another front anticipated to follow on Thursday evening, intensifying the effects experienced in the regions.
As the cold front descends, SAWS said that daytime temperatures could plunge to 10 degrees or below in various interior areas of the Western Cape. From Wednesday through Saturday, residents are urged to brace themselves for extremely cold weather.
“The small stock farmers and the public are advised to take the necessary precaution to ensure the safety and health of themselves and their livestock during very cold days.”
The weather service has urged the public to monitor further updates and exercise caution, especially near coastal areas.

The forecaster further advised that damaging waves are likely along the coastline, with a Level 2 warning in effect until Thursday night. Wave heights are expected to reach between 4.0 to 5.0 metres, escalating to 5.5 metres on Wednesday.
The areas affected include the coast from Saldanha Bay to Plettenberg Bay, where strong westerly to south-westerly swells pose a significant risk to those navigating the seas.
“Small vessel operators, including those using kayaks, may be at risk of taking on water or capsizing,” said the forecaster.
Rainfall probabilities for the region remain modest at around 30% along the southern coast, particularly near George and Cape Agulhas. Despite the limited precipitation, strong gusts and sea conditions are expected to be the dominant concern.
