The Hawks have arrested a 49-year-old woman for allegedly fraudulently selling a mining company that did not belong to her.

The woman, a co-director of mining company Rowen Tree 60, sold the mining rights to a businessman for over R1.3 million and allegedly pocketed some of the money.

The businessman who paid the woman, only discovered later that she did not own the company and was not in good standing with the Department of Mineral Resources.

Northern Cape Hawks spokesperson Nomthandazo Mnisi says the woman will apply for bail in the Douglas Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.

“After the complainant paid the amount of R1 368 000.00 to the seller of the rights, an amount of R100 000.00 was then paid to a personal account belonging to one of the directors of Rowen Tree 60 PTY Ltd.

This series of fraudulent transactions resulted in the complainant losing an amount of R1 368 000.00. More arrests are imminent.”
