Missing Gauteng boys found dead
Authorities have retrieved the bodies of two young boys from a pond in Gauteng hours after the pair were reported missing.
The bodies of the boys, aged 10 and 11, were recovered from a pond in Duduza along Tonkmeter Road on Friday morning.
They were reported missing at the Duduza SAPS station on Thursday evening.
William Ntladi, the media liaison of the City of Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services, said a search was conducted in an area that has open water, and that is where the remains of the children were found.
“We received a possible drowning case this morning at around 8 am. The rescue team from Duduza fire station swiftly responded to the call. On arrival, two sets of clothes that were found next to the water pond were positively linked to the missing boy,” he said.
Rescue team, along with other rescue and medical stakeholders, retrieved the two bodies from the water, with the boys declared dead on scene by paramedics.
“We are arranging with the relevant stakeholders and the pathology department to come on site to remove the bodies. There is a high volume of vehicles parked next to the scene, and there are a lot of bystanders who came to look,” Ntladi said.
He pleaded with motorists and pedestrians to drive carefully near the scene of the drowning.
