MK Party backs call for Minister Nkabane to return before Parliament – SABC News
The Mkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party supports the call for Minister of Higher Education and Training Dr. Nobuhle Nkabane to appear before Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Higher Education and Training again.
This comes after Nkabane released the names of the selection panel responsible for choosing the Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA) board members.
MK Member of Parliament, Mnqobi Msezane says it’s the role of Members of Parliament to hold the executive to account. He says this is what the Higher Education and Training Portfolio Committee is trying to achieve in how it is handling the SETA chair appointment saga.
Msezane says the committee has various options in dealing with this.
“According to the powers and privileges of parliament, we have a number of avenues which we can undertake and as a party. In fact, we can also go to the extent of even lodging formal charges for perjury, amongst others, criminal charges because lying before parliament is unlawful,” he says.
Msezane says their primary role is to first expose the incompetence, all the lies, and in general, all the failures of the current government, as the official opposition in parliament
