Flood victims in EC receive ID documents, birth certificates – SABC News

The flood victims in Mthatha and Butterworth, in the Eastern Cape, have been assisted with Identity Documents and birth certificate registrations.

A delegation of Deputy Ministers, which included Human Settlements, Presidency, Cogta, and Home Affairs, visited the flood victims to conduct an intergovernmental assessment to provide services.

The Human Settlements Department says it has identified land in the Mnquma and King Sabatha Dalindyebo Municipalities to relocate the victims.

Home Affairs Deputy Minister Njabulo Nzuza says they will return to monitor progress on the identity registration of Identity Documents.

“We are happy with the progress that we have made. Today we were able to issue some birth certificates an understanding that birth certificates can be printed on the spot. Now we are doing this work using the mobile fleet of Home Affairs that we extended last year, together with the President in Limpopo, when we added an additional hundred mobile units. Now we anticipate that within two to three weeks we will come back here to issue those with a smart ID card.”
