WP get speed injection

Western Province are serious about a stronger showing in the Currie Cup, and have bolstered their squad with three Blitzboks for the 2025 campaign.

Netwerk24 reports that WP and Springbok Sevens coach Philip Snyman have agreed that Tristan Leyds, Zain Davids and Quewin Nortje will join the Cape side on loan.

Gideon van Wyk, who represented the Blitzboks ‘A’ team that recently won the Africa tournament in Mauritius, will also be available to Western Province.

This could also be a big indicator of how new coach Labeeb Levy wants his side to play in South Africa’s premier domestic rugby competition.

Up until his recent promotion to WP head coach, Levy had functioned as the Stormers’ skills and performance analyst, so it’s likely that a strong skill set and high work rate are what he’ll demand from his players this season – which the Blitzboks have in ample supply.

Another sign that WP are dead-set on improving on their seventh place finish last season, is the inclusion of former Springbok assistant coach and 17-Test Bok, Brendan Venter as consultant and the recently-retired Brok Harris and Dewaldt Duvenage as assistant coaches.
