G20 making strides to ensure multilateralism remains effective: UN – SABC News


United Nations (UN) G20 Special Envoy/Representative of the Head of State or Government (Sherpa), Nelson Muffuh, says the G20 is making meaningful strides to ensure multilateralism remains effective and inclusive, particularly for global trade and cooperation amid rising geopolitical tensions and a surge in protectionism.

He made these remarks at the third Sherpa Meeting at the Sun City Resort in North West yesterday.

International Relations and Cooperation Minister Ronald Lamola is expected to address the gathering today.

Muffuh says, “There is a positive momentum with regards to reinforcing multilateralism corporation at a time when it is much needed as the UN celebrates 80 years of its existence and the G20 Presidency under South Africa is contributing positively.”

“It is the time to reform global finance architecture, but also ensure that financing for development and climate action, but something that benefits developing countries,” he adds.
