Second batch of Foot-and-Mouth vaccines ordered: Ntshavheni – SABC News

Minister in the Presidency, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, says the government has noted the progress made in dealing the spread of Foot-and-Mouth on livestock in parts of KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape and Gauteng.

Ntshavheni says the consignment of the much-need vaccines has since arrived from Botswana.

Earlier this week, the Department of Agriculture announced that an amount of R42 million has been set aside specifically for the purchasing of Foot-and-Mouth vaccines.

Ntshavheni briefed members of the media on the outcomes of the Cabinet meeting held yesterday.

“Cabinet welcomes the arrival of the much-needed vaccines sourced from Botswana to combat Foot-and-Mouth disease as there has been an outbreak in certain parts of the country, especially to the affected areas of KwaZulu-Natal and Eastern Cape. The vaccines are being distributed and administered free of charge,” says Ntshavheni.

She says vaccines are also being distributed to farms in other provinces where the disease has been identified.

“The second batch of vaccines have been ordered from the Botswana Vaccine Institute,” adds Ntshavheni.
