Dramatic rescue: Gauteng's Anti-Kidnapping Task Team apprehends two kidnappers"
Police in Gauteng have been lauded after rescuing a kidnapping victim and arresting two kidnappers during an operation in Germiston on Friday.
The victim is a 30-year-old man.
The provincial police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Amanda van Wyk said the victim’s vehicle was reportedly found in Dawnpark, and this sparked an investigation.
“Further investigation revealed that the owner of the vehicle had been kidnapped and was being held against his will,” she said.
The police’s Anti-Kidnapping Task Team was directed to investigate the matter.
The task team identified an address in Germiston.
As police arrived at the address, a shootout also ensued.
“With support from a tactical unit, the team entered the premises and successfully rescued the victim. Two suspects were arrested at the scene, while others managed to flee during a shootout with police. The rescued victim confirmed he had been kidnapped on Thursday, June 26, 2025,” van Wyk said.
This comes a week after police made a breakthrough after arresting a kidnapping kingpin in the province.
“Just last week, police traced a Mozambican kidnapping kingpin to an apartment block in Fourways, Johannesburg. The suspect, linked to several kidnappings, was fatally wounded in a shootout with police,” van Wyk said.
Police in Gauteng said it remains committed to dismantling kidnapping syndicates and bring perpetrators to justice.
