Three people have died and one seriously injured when the vehicle they were travelling in lost control and crashed into a bridge at Payn Street in Pietermaritzburg.

Craig Botha from the KwaZulu-Natal Private Ambulance Services says the driver was trapped in the wreckage.

Botha says paramedics together with Fire and Rescue Services utilised specialised rescue tools to successfully extricate the driver.

“Sadly, this incident resulted in three fatalities. The driver sustained serious injuries and received medical attention before being transported to hospital for further care,” says Botha.
