Urgent power interruption scheduled for critical upgrades in Isiphingo and uMlazi

Residents of Isiphingo and uMlazi are advised to prepare for a temporary power interruption on Wednesday, 2 July, starting at 9am.

This necessary outage is part of a concerted effort by the City’s Energy Management Directorate to complete vital infrastructure upgrades aimed at enhancing the reliability of electricity supply in the area.

As part of the final phase of ongoing works, teams will be executing a crucial changeover from outdated underground cables at the 214 Distribution Substation to the newly installed cables at the Isiphingo Major Substation.

This systematic upgrade involves not only the replacement of aging cables but also the safety servicing of circuit breakers to ensure that these new installations can carry loads effectively.

The areas anticipated to experience disruptions include:

  • Lotus Park
  • Malukazi
  • Philani Valley Mall (uMlazi)

The power restoration process is expected to take place in phases, with all efforts directed toward complete restoration by the end of the day.

City officials acknowledge that such interruptions can be an inconvenience and sincerely apologise to residents for the disruption. However, they emphasise that these upgrades are integral to the City’s broader mission of improving service delivery and ensuring a more stable electricity network for the community.
