10 dead after bridge collapses in western India: Local media – SABC News


At least 10 people were dead after a bridge collapsed in the western Indian state of Gujarat on Wednesday, according to local media outlet, NDTV.

Rescue operations were under way in Gujarat’s Vadodara city, where five vehicles were said to have plunged into a river below after the bridge they were on collapsed.

An oil tanker was seen halted just metres away from the edge of a section of the bridge that collapsed, as rescue personnel worked to retrieve bodies from the water below.

The city’s district collector, Anil Dhameliya, told media at the site that nine bodies had been recovered, and six people were injured and undergoing treatment.
