SAPS crime intelligence head Khumalo temporarily removed from unit – SABC News

South African Police Service Crime Intelligence Unit boss, Dumisani Khumalo, has been temporarily removed from the unit following allegations of fraud and corruption.

Khumalo and six other senior police officials were arrested last month at the O.R. Tambo International Airport.

However, he and five co-accused were released on bail of R10 000 each.

Accused number seven has a pending corruption case and remains behind bars.

Addressing the media virtually, National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola said the Western Cape Hawks Head, Solomon Makgato, would act in Khumalo’s position.

“The human resources division of the police has processed the matter in line with the SAPS disciplinary regulations of 2016. All seven senior officers have been temporarily transferred out of division of crime intelligence pending more information which we have requested from which will indicate to us what further cause of action we can take.”
