Fatal crash involving bus and truck near KwaMashu



A section of the M25 northbound was closed early on Thursday following a tragic collision involving a bus carrying multiple passengers and a truck near the KwaMashu off-ramp.

The crash, which occurred just before the main KwaMashu off-ramp, has claimed at least one life and left several others injured, including one person who was trapped in the wreckage.

ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson, described the crash as “horrific” and confirmed that emergency responders were still attending to victims.

“At this stage, it’s reported that one person has sustained fatal injuries and multiple other patients have sustained various injuries, with one patient being trapped in the wreckage,” said Jamieson.

He added that the eThekwini Fire Department is actively using specialised rescue equipment to assist the trapped passenger. “The eThekwini Fire Department is currently using the jaws of life and other hydraulic equipment to cut the person free. The scene is still active with multiple ambulances in attendance and there will be for some time. Further updates to follow,” he said.

The crash has brought traffic on the M25 to a standstill. Durban Metro Police issued an urgent alert warning motorists to steer clear of the area.

” M25 Northbound closed at the R102 (Ramdaris) off-ramp due to an active accident scene.

“Emergency services are currently on site. Motorists are urged to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Please exercise caution and be patient as responders work to clear the scene safely,” Metro Police added.
