ANC in KZN celebrates 75th Anniversary of SABC News – SABC News
The African National Congress (ANC) in KwaZulu-Natal has joined the nation in celebrating a historic milestone, the 75th Anniversary of SABC News.
Today marks 75 years since the existence of the SABC News Service.
It was in 17th of July 1950, when SABC News aired its first radio news bulletin from Broadcast House in Commissioner Street, Johannesburg.
ANC’s provincial spokesperson Fanele Sibisi says through news, the public broadcaster continues to be a powerful voice for all South Africans.
“We pay tribute to the SABC News for its dedication and journalistic integrity; it’s commitments to being the voice of the voiceless and it’s cutting-edge democratic ideas and guarding in our constitution through the constitution of our country. At many times the SABC has stood tall in informing and educating and uniting South Africans across all diverse cultures and races landscape. The ANC acknowledges the sacrifice and services of the men and women past and present who have kept their newsroom lights burning in the interest of the people. Their courage of professionalism passion has defined a legacy that continues to inspire future generations of journalists,” says Sibisi.
Meanwhile, GCEO Nomsa Chabeli says SABC News has reaffirmed the broadcaster’s commitment to delivering trusted news and reflecting society through its coverage.
Chabeli says the public broadcaster is proud to commemorate this significant achievement, underscoring its enduring role as a reliable source of information and a true mirror of the nation.
She says, “For three quarters of a century, SABC News has been at the heart of our democracy, informing, educating and empowering generations of South Africans. Through times of change, through times of struggle, through times of triumph and transformation SABC News, SABC News has remained a trusted source of news, a mirror to society, not only to our nation, but also to the world, trying to understand South Africa.”
