Weekend forecast: Disruptive rain alert in KwaZulu-Natal as scattered showers spread across the east



The weekend weather will bring a mix of cloudy, cool conditions and isolated to scattered showers across much of the country, with a Yellow Level 2 warning for disruptive rain in KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday.

Vulnerable members of the public and communities are urged to remain alert to possible flooding of roads, settlements and bridges.

Fine and cool-to-warm conditions are expected elsewhere, especially in the west and interior. Here’s your detailed provincial breakdown:

KwaZulu-Natal

Saturday, 19 July: Yellow Level 2 Warning for disruptive rain along the east coast. Expect widespread showers, overcast skies, and cool conditions.

Durban: High of 20°C, low of 14°C with heavy rain at times.

Sunday, 20 July:Showers ease, but some lingering drizzle remains.

High of 21°C, low of 16°C.

Eastern Cape

Saturday: Cloudy with scattered rain, especially along the coast.

Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth): High of 19°C, low of 10°C.

East London: Cloudy with light rain, 19°C/13°C.

Sunday: Warmer with some sun breaking through. Highs climb to 26°C along the coast.

Mpumalanga

Saturday:

Mbombela: Cloudy and cool with persistent drizzle. High of approximately 20°C.

Sunday: Cloud cover persists with isolated showers.

Gauteng

Saturday: Partly cloudy and cooler than Friday.

Johannesburg: High of 19°C, low of 8°C.

Pretoria: 20°C/8°C, with mild westerly breezes.

Sunday: Overcast at times, with a cooler high of 17–20°C across the province.

Limpopo

Saturday: Cooler day with 21°C high, 6°C low in Polokwane.

Sunday: Overcast with potential for isolated showers in southern areas. High of 19°C.

Free State

Saturday: Fine but cool, with a high of 18°C and a low of 3°C.

Sunday: Slightly warmer at 19°C, with some cloud build-up.

North West

Saturday & Sunday: Mostly fine with daytime highs between 19–21°C. Cool mornings and dry conditions expected.

Western Cape

Saturday:

Cape Town: Mostly clear, high of 19°C, low of 9°C.

Breezy along the coast with lingering swells from earlier in the week.

Sunday: Mild and sunny, reaching 18°C.

Note: Damaging waves warning has expired, but surf may remain rough.

Northern Cape

Upington: A warm weekend in contrast to much of the country.

Saturday & Sunday: Dry and sunny, high of 25°C, lows around 2–8°C.

Kimberley: Mild and sunny, with no rainfall expected.

Looking ahead to Monday, July 21: Isolated to scattered showers are expected again over the central, eastern, and southwestern parts of the country as a new weather system develops.
