Theresa Solomon’s Special Official funeral underway in Lansdowne – SABC News
The funeral of struggle stalwart Theresa Solomon and former Cape Town mayor is underway in Lansdowne on Saturday.
President Cyril Ramaphosa has accorded her a Special Provincial Official Funeral Category Two.
Solomon, who was born in District Six in 1945, dedicated her life to social justice and community development.
I will deliver a message of condolences on behalf of the movement at the funeral service of the late Comrade Theresa “Cde. T” Solomon.

Solomon passed away last week at the age of 79. She served as the first black female mayor in the City from 1996 to 1998, as well as deputy mayor between 1995 and 1996.
She was a founder member of the United Democratic Front. Solomon was a revered anti-apartheid activist and civic leader in the 1970s and 80s.
She led numerous campaigns for justice, economic upliftment, and workers’ rights.
