Case of arson probed following a fire at former KZN Premier’s house – SABC News


Police in KwaZulu-Natal say they are investigating a case of arson after a fire at former Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube’s house in Gillits, west of Durban. The fire services say three vehicles were destroyed and sections of the servant’s quarters damaged.

“Police in Hillcrest have opened a case of arson for investigation. This follows an incident in which three vehicles, two motorbikes and quad bikes were caught in the fire. It is reported that the owner of the property the vehicles … (was) alerted of the smoke out of the garage. The suspects are not known at this stage and the motive is being investigated,” Police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda explains.

The fire services say three vehicles were destroyed and sections of the servant’s quarters damaged.

In videos supplied of the incident on Sunday night, flames can be seen engulfing what appeared to be three vehicles in a garage on the property.

Dube-Ncube can be heard talking to firefighters in the video, sounding deeply distressed. The cause of the fire is not known.

Dube-Ncube was the premier of the province from 2022 and 2024.

Division Commander of the eThekwini Municipality Fire and Emergency Services unit, Sibusiso Dlamini, says no injuries were reported.
