Severe thunderstorms expected in Eastern Cape: Tuesday's weather update
Tuesday brings a chilly and unsettled weather pattern to much of the country, with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers expected across the central, southern and eastern regions. The South African Weather Service (SAWS) warned of possible severe thunderstorms over the extreme eastern parts of the Eastern Cape.
In the rest of the country, there will be cool and partly cloudy skies, while the west remains drier and warmer. Here’s your province-by-province guide.
Eastern Cape
Weather: Expect scattered rain and possible severe thunderstorms, particularly in the eastern interior.
Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth): Overcast with showers, high of 17°C, low of 10°C.
East London: Cooler with showers and possible thunder, high of 16°C, low of 14°C.
Mthatha: At risk of severe thunderstorms in the afternoon.
KwaZulu-Natal
Durban: Cloudy with isolated showers and humid conditions. High of 21°C, low of 17°C.
Interior: Cooler with a chance of thundershowers moving inland.
Gauteng
Johannesburg: Cloudy with a slight chance of isolated showers. Cool with a high of 17°C, low of 8°C.
Pretoria: Warmer at 20°C, low of 9°C, with partly cloudy skies and light winds.
Mpumalanga
Cloudy and cool with isolated showers and possible thundershowers in the east.
Mbombela: Damp and overcast, temperatures around 18–20°C (estimated).
Limpopo
Polokwane: Cool day with a high of 19°C, low of 4°C. Mostly dry with some cloud cover.
Free State
Cloudy and cool with isolated showers possible, especially in the eastern part of the province.
Bloemfontein: High of 18°C, low of 7°C.
North West
Mostly dry with cool to mild conditions. Slight chance of isolated light showers in the east.
Western Cape
Cape Town: A break in wet weather with sunny spells and warmer temperatures. High of 19°C, low of 11°C.
Coastal winds moderate; inland areas remaining dry.
Northern Cape
Upington: Warm and dry with a high of 23°C, low of 10°C.
Kimberley: Mild and partly cloudy. No rain expected.
