Jayden-Lee Meek: What to expect today

The bail application of Tiffany Meek continues in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

Meek, 31, from Fleurhof, faces charges of murder of her 11-year-old son Jayden-Lee Meek, crimen injuria, attempting to defeat or obstruct the course of justice, and defeating or obstructing the administration of justice.

Jayden-Lee was reported missing on 13 May. His body was found the following morning.

The investigating officer is expected to be called back to the witness stand.

The investigating officer is expected to continue his testimony. He has since poked holes in Meek’s affidavit to the court.

On Monday, he testified that Jayden-Lee had sustained serious injuries to his body and stated the cause of death was blunt force head injuries.

He confirmed police noted several injuries to the child’s body, including a cut to the forehead, a wound on the chin, and bruises on the neck, arms, and right leg. Blood was also seen on his lips.

According to a statement read in court, Jayden-Lee was wearing black underwear at the time his body was discovered. His remains were later handed over to pathology services.

Jayden-Lee’s school bag and books were also photographed. Meek’s defence lawyer, Noven Naidoo, confirmed her son’s bag was in the photo shown to her, which bore a date stamp. His red school jacket and shoes were found in a cupboard and photographed for evidence.

The court also heard Meek returned to her apartment complex at 4am on May 14. She left the complex at about 5.30am, according to a security guard at the complex. Thereafter, Jayden-Lee’s body was found on the first floor near the stairs.

It was also revealed Jayden-Lee’s body was found approximately eight metres from his front door. At the time, he was clothed in black underwear.
