SCOPA inquiry into RAF not affected by board dissolution – SABC News

The Standing Committee on Public Accounts (SCOPA) says the dissolution of the Board of the Road Accident Fund (RAF) will not detract from its work conducting an inquiry into the affairs of the entity.

Transport Minister Barbra Creecy recently dissolved the Board of RAF, citing persistent governance and operational challenges.

SCOPA has already adopted the terms of reference of the inquiry into allegations of maladministration and financial impropriety.

SCOPA Chairperson Songezo Zibi says, “The Standing Committee on Public Accounts has noted the dissolution of the Board of the Road Accident Fund by the Minister of Transport. Our position is that we will nonetheless continue because we are not investigating individuals.”

“We are investigating the crises of financial mismanagement and mismanagement of funds at the Road Accident Fund. That work needs to continue until and to the extent that there are former and current board members to appear before the Standing Committee and staff will need to appear, or be invited to appear.”
