Andy Farrell says the British & Irish Lions are bracing for the biggest Test of their careers as they prepare to face a fired-up Wallabies team at the iconic MCG on Saturday.

The tourists have swept all before them on this year’s tour including a 27-19 win over Australia in Brisbane and are now one win away from sealing a series victory and etching their names into Lions history.

“If you can’t get up for what’s coming, we’re all in the wrong place,” said Farrell.

“To me, this is the biggest game of our lives for everyone who is part of this squad.”

The Lions’ perfect run continued with a 24-19 win over a combative First Nations and Pasifika XV on Tuesday, though Farrell admitted his side would need to step it up a gear to finish the job in Melbourne.

“We started to play the game like an exhibition, and it was never going to be like that. We weren’t earning the right to play,” he said.

“There will have to be plenty of improvement because we know Australia will be a lot better.”

Several selection calls hang in the balance, including whether Blair Kinghorn has done enough to unseat Hugo Keenan at fullback. British media have also reported that lock Joe McCarthy and wing Mack Hansen could miss the second Test through injury, and it now looks almost certain that Darcy Graham’s Lions tour is over.

Owen Farrell, who was left out of the first Test, captained the midweek side and impressed with his control and kicking. His inclusion could come at the expense of Marcus Smith, who passed a Head Injury Assessment after a cameo off the bench on Tuesday.
