‘Insurance killer cop’ still recruiting hit victims from behind bars – SABC News
Alleged insurance killer cop, Rachel Kutumela, has continued to attempt to get her family and friends to take out insurance policies on other people while she was incarcerated. This is according to the investigating officer in her fraud and murder case, Captain Keshi Mabunda.
Kutumela was arrested in October last year with her sister, Anna Shokane and daughter, Florah Shokane. They allegedly benefited R10 million from the killing of nine civilians.
Their bail application has been ongoing since December last year. Thus far, the accused, Kutumela, and Anna and Florah Shokane have given oral evidence.
All have denied any involvement in the deaths of the nine people they stand accused of killing. They have, however, confirmed taking out policies on the lives of some of the deceased, as well as receiving payments upon their deaths.
They have also confirmed transferring funds to each other upon receipt of payments, but deny, however, that the funds were acquired fraudulently or that they laundered money.
The investigating officer in the matter, Captain Mabunda, has also testified to oppose bail. He tells the court that the state has a strong case against the three.

He also testifies that the accused are likely to evade trial if released on bail. Mabunda further says that the accused would interfere with state witnesses, adding that Kutumela and her sister have already done so.
Kutumela is accused of attempting to interfere with state witnesses while she was incarcerated, with the help of her lawyer, Moses Manthata.
Mabunda tells the court that Kutumela called witnesses while in police custody using her lawyer’s cellphone,
“She has already interfered with the state witnesses, more especially where even the defence helped her to interfere with my witnesses.”
“Which defense?”
“Mr Manthata, your Worship.”
“The one asking questions?”
“Yes.”
