Amber Lee Hughes admits to killing lover’s 4-year-old daughter in cold bath torture
Amber Lee Hughes, who stands accused of killing her lover’s four-year-old daughter, detailed the events leading up to the little girl’s death.
In her chilling admission statement, the former preschool teacher spelled out how, on January 23, 2023, she filled up a bath of cold water and then sat on the Nada-Jane Challita.
Hughes allegedly developed a romantic relationship with the girl’s father in 2021, and she moved in with them. During her stay, their relationship was allegedly marked by frequent altercations.
Hughes, 25, claimed that she suffered from borderline personality disorder; however, she was aware of what she was doing on the day.
She maintains that she did not rape the girl. Hughes claims she did not know about those allegations.
“In her admissions, Hughes confessed to drowning the four-year-old after an emotionally charged dispute with the child’s father over his infidelity, said National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson, Phindi Mjonondwane.
The case has been adjourned to August 7 for closing arguments on the admissions.
Hughes remains in custody until her next court appearance.
