UPDATE: Russian rescuers find missing plane in flames in far east

Russian rescuers have found the fuselage of an Antonov-24 passenger plane that disappeared from radar earlier in Russia’s far east, the emergencies ministry said on Thursday.

“An Mi-8 helicopter operated by Rosaviatsiya (Russia’s civil aviation authority) has spotted the burning fuselage of the aircraft,” Russia’s emergencies ministry said on Telegram.

The plane carrying 49 people has disappeared from radar in Russia’s far eastern region of Amur, the regional governor said on Thursday.

The Antonov-24 plane disappeared from radar as it headed to the city of Tynda from the city of Blagoveshchensk, Vassily Orlov wrote on Telegram.

Five children were believed to be on board.

This is a developing story.
