Work of Commission into Mkhwanazi claims has commenced: Madlanga – SABC News
Chairperson of the Commission of Inquiry into Criminality, Political Interference and Corruption in the Criminal Justice System, Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga says that the work of the Commission has commenced in earnest.
The Commission held its inaugural press briefing in Sandton today, assuring the public that its first consultation is imminent.
President Cyril Ramaphosa announced the establishment of the body earlier this month in response to allegations made by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi that the criminal justice system has been infiltrated by criminal syndicates with ties to senior police officials and politicians.
These allegations also saw the Police Minister Senzo Mchunu put on a leave of absence.
“I think I should just be open with the South African public and say that the imminent consultation that I referred to is going to be with Lieutenant General Mkhwanazi. But regarding who the first witness will be, we are not able to say at this stage. One has no idea what the consultation will lead to,” says Madlanga.
