Investigations at Tembisa Hospital are finalised: SIU head – SABC News

Special Investigating Unit (SIU) head Andy Mothibi says investigators have finalised their investigation at the Tembisa Provincial Hospital in Gauteng. The probe followed the murder of corruption whistleblower and employee of the Gauteng’s Health Department, Babita Deokaran in August 2021.

She had exposed widescale tender corruption.

The six men involved in her assassination were sentenced to a combined 95 years imprisonment.

Mothibi says the measures to protect whistleblowers must be improved.

“We are reminded of the likes of Babita Deokaran here and the immense input that her efforts has really given us as the SIU, and of course, the Gauteng Department of Health, to uncover corruption that’s happening in the Department of Health, particularly at the Tembisa Hospital. We’ve been investigating there, and her efforts have really been very helpful. We will be going out soon. We are just finalising the investigation. In fact, I will be meeting the investigating team soon,” says Mothibi.
