SACP Turns 104 and gears up for independent election run – SABC News
The South African Communist Party (SACP) is due to celebrate the founding of the party 104 years ago, at KwaDlengezwa near Richards Bay on the KwaZulu-Natal North Coast, on Sunday.
The rally will be addressed by SACP General-Secretary, Solly Mapaila.
The SACP and Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) have been supporting the African National Congress (ANC) during elections, over the past 30 years.
Amid unhappiness over the ANC’s lack of consultation of its alliance partners, the SACP congress decided last year that it will contest next year’s local government elections independently.
Despite discussions with the ANC over the past months, Mapaila confirmed in June that his party stands firmly by its decision.
