Eastern Cape man and woman arrested for murder of SAPS clerk Bongiwe Rhamncwana

Two suspects from the Eastern Cape are expected to appear in the Whittlesea Magistrate’s Court on Monday for the murder of a South African Police Service (SAPS) employee.

The suspects, a man and woman, aged 30 and 36, were arrested on Thursday, July 31, in connection with the murder of SAPS administrative clerk, Bongiwe Rhamncwana, 48.

Rhamncwana was gunned down as she was opening the gate of her home in White City, Sada, just after 5.30 pm on July 18. She was declared dead at the scene

The suspects were travelling in a white Suzuki at the time of the shooting incident.

Police are still investigating the motive for the shooting.

The provincial police spokesperson, Captain Namhla Mdleleni, said the arrests follow an intelligence-driven operation with the assistance from members attached to the Whittlesea detective branch and the Tactical Response Unit (TRT).

“Information led the investigation team to Ngangelizwe Township in Mthatha, where they arrested a 36-year-old female suspect. A thorough investigation led the police to Chris Hani township in Mthatha and arrested a 30-year-old male who was also involved in the shooting.  Police also recovered a hired vehicle that was used during the commission of the crime and was confiscated by police for further investigation. Investigation is continuing,” Mdleleni said.

The Police Commissioner in the Chris Hani District, Major General Rudolph Adolph, welcomed the arrests of the suspects and commended the team’s work.
