Limpopo man arrested after wife found murdered with left hand chopped off
A Limpopo man is expected to appear in court soon after he was arrested at the weekend for allegedly murdering his wife.
The body of the 41-year-old woman was discovered on Saturday, August 2, just before 1pm by her son at their home in Tshidzini Mutshili within the Tshaulu policing precinct.
The provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba, confirmed the arrest of the 48-year-old man.
“The victim’s son arrived at home when he met with his father walking out of the gate. He then asked him about the whereabouts of his mother, but his father started to shout at him and even promised to beat him. He then went to a two-roomed house, intending to search for his mother, but found the door locked on his arrival. He broke down the door to gain entry and was shocked to see the lifeless body of his mother lying in a pool of blood,” Mashaba said.
Police and members of the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were called immediately, and the woman victim was certified dead on their arrival at the scene.
“The deceased sustained severe injuries on the upper body, and her left hand was also cut off during the horrific incident. Following the incident, a murder case was opened and the suspect was later apprehended the same day on Saturday, August 2, 2025. The motive of the incident is currently unknown at this stage but domestic violence cannot be ruled out,” Mashaba said.
Police said their investigation into the matter continues.
