Pretoria worried about US-Eswatini deportation deal – SABC News
The Department of International Relations and Co-operation (DIRCO) has raised concerns about the recent arrival of dangerous criminals to Eswatini from the US.
An Eswatini government spokesperson says Washington transported the convicted criminals of various nationalities on a special flight, with the potential of more criminals to follow.
DIRCO says that, as much as Eswatini and the US say they would collaborate with the International Organisation for Migration to facilitate the transit of these criminals to their countries of origin, it also notes that these countries are unlikely to receive the deportees.
The International Relations ministry adds that while it respects the sovereign decision of Eswatini, South Africa is concerned about the adverse impact on national security and immigration policy, given the proximity between Pretoria and Mbabane.
