Three more accused added in the murder matter of former Durban man Malcolm Pather

Three more people have been charged in connection with the murder of Malcom Pather, a formerly from Durban.

The 41-year-old Richmond, Cape Town, resident disappeared on July 13, after he was last seen leaving his home in his blue BMW.

Stacey Lee Hector and her boyfriend, Wade van Reneen, both 39, have been charged with Pather’s murder.

In addition to murder, they face charges of kidnapping and defeating the ends of justice.

Yesterday, at the Atlantis Magistrate’s Court, three more people were added to the charge sheet.

The additional accused were Igshaan Abrahams, Kyle Francis, and Courtney Nortje.

All five accused are believed to be friends.

Pather’s body was found a day after his disappearance on July 14, 2025, in the back of a bakkie.

It is alleged that the vehicle his body was found in was allegedly stolen in the Goodwood area between July 12, and July 13.

The suspects will be applying for bail in the Atlantis Magistrate’s Court.

Western Cape police spokesperson, Captain Frederick van Wyk, confirmed Pather’s body was found burnt beyond recognition in Melkbosstrand.

“The body of a male found was burnt beyond recognition. All leads were followed up on evidence found on the crime scene, and a possible person of interest was identified,” he said at the time.

Pather was reported missing by his brother-in-law, and pictures of him and his vehicle were circulating across all social media platforms.

During yesterday’s court proceedings the five accused opted for legal aid representatives.

The matter was adjourned to August 7, 2025, for a possible bail application.
