Suspect in Eersterust murder case appears in court, residents protest – SABC News
Angry Eersterust residents east of Pretoria are calling for justice following the gruesome discovery of the body of a woman in a shallow grave.
They are protesting outside the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court, where a 36-year-old man is expected to appear in connection with the murder.
The suspect was arrested in Polokwane on Monday.
The woman’s partially burnt body was discovered on July 31, weeks after she was reported missing.
This comes amid intense investigations into the murders of four women in the area recently.
Moshe Mathe from Youth for Survival NPO says the perpetrator deserves to rot in jail.
“It is a concern that in our country still women are being murdered. There’s darkness in the country. It is Women’s Month, but we are not celebrated. We are carrying these candles today because our prayer is that let there be light in SA.”
Mathe adds: “Let this GBV stop. Once and for all. Let justice prevail. Let the perpetrators be booked and taken into prison and locked for good and never come back. Women are in fear and scared, even the one’s in our shelters are afraid to return to their homes. What kind of life, and the country is this.”
