Lusikisiki massacre trial continues, State to call next witness – SABC News

The trial of six men accused of the murder of 18 people in the Ngobozana village in Lusikisiki last year, is expected to continue in the High Court in Mthatha sitting in a local magistrate’s court in the Eastern Cape today.

The accused are facing charges including, murder, attempted murder, conspiracy to murder and kidnapping.

Yesterday the state called two witnesses.

The mother of the late Ruth King was the first to testify.

The visibly terrified witness gave details about the day of the massacre.

She told the court that they were still sleeping in the early hours of the morning when she heard a stone hitting the front door.

She says the door was then kicked open before many people stormed the house shouting.

Later she heard gunshots and her daughter Ruth screaming, calling her for help.

She broke down and cried as she testified that she and other two women hid behind the bed as the gunshots continued.

The State is expected to call its next witness.
