Schreuder back as Losper hits 50 for Boland

Boland Cavaliers head coach Hawies Fourie has named a reshuffled match-23 for the Currie Cup clash against the Lions in Wellington on Sunday.

Veteran scrumhalf Louis Schreuder will make his long-awaited debut for the Cavaliers, having missed round one and two due to an ankle injury. Schreuder last featured in the Currie Cup in the 2018 final, captaining the Sharks to victory over his former team, Western Province, at Newlands.

This weekend’s match will also be a special occasion for Wayrin Losper, who earns his 50th cap for Boland. The hard-as-nails loosehead prop made his debut in 2019 after joining from Maties and enjoyed a stint with Italian club Mogliano in 2023.

Schreuder replaces Chriswill September, who shifts to the bench, while Xavier Mitchell comes in on the wing for Marcqiewn Titus. In the pack, Boland have been dealt a double blow with injuries to loose forwards Sibusiso Sangweni and Gift Dlamini, the latter ruled out for the season after breaking his leg.

Thurlow Marsh slots in at No 8, with Sauliegh Arendse starting at openside flank. Mthokozisi Gumede, a new recruit from the Griffons, is set to debut off the bench.
