Police in the North West arrested a suspect in Majakaneng outside Brits in the North West who they believe was part of a gang of 10 who robbed a business in Marikana earlier this week.  

According to provincial police spokesperson Captain Mpho Manyoba, the safe of the business as well as two ATMs were blown open with explosives after which the suspects shot at police who were on patrol. 

Manyoba says the suspect was apprehended during a cordon and search operation in the area, which has been identified as a crime hotspot in the province.  

 “A suspect was arrested after the vehicle he was driving was stopped by the police in the area where two AK 47 Automatic Rifles, 160 rounds of ammunition and four AK 47 magazines were discovered hidden in a secret compartment under the vehicle.”
