Man accused of Gauteng traffic warden’s murder granted bail – SABC News

The Protea Magistrate’s Court in Soweto has granted murder accused Mandla Buthelezi, bail of R20 000.

This has angered residents of Eldorado Park in Johannesburg who stormed out of court swearing and shouting, “Justice for Chesnay.”

Buthelezi, a former police officer, is accused of killing his 22-year-old Gauteng traffic warden girlfriend Chesnay Keppler after a domestic dispute on Boxing Day in 2024.

The family of Keppler say they have been let down by the justice system. Buthelezi, a former police officer, allegedly shot himself following the ordeal.

The deceased’s aunt Elsabe Whittin says, “This is heart breaking news for us. We are praying for a justice system that will give us the power to say thank you. But we cannot say thank you. Why must we always have tears all the time. Our justice system is failing us. We are heartbroken as a community and the family. R20 000 for a life that cannot come back. Come on man.”
