EU-led bloc puts pressure on Israel to allow lifesaving aid into Gaza – SABC News
The European Union, joined by foreign ministers from 24 countries, declared that the humanitarian crisis gripping Gaza has reached unimaginable levels.
They issued a plea to Israel to immediately lift all barriers to aid delivery, demanding that every crossing and route be opened to allow a massive influx of food, water, medicine, fuel, and shelter into the enclave.
This joint appeal with backing from senior EU officials warns that the region is teetering on the brink of famine, urging urgent action to stop and reverse starvation.
This appeal comes as Gaza experiences an unprecedented humanitarian crisis, which has worsened since March, when Israeli authorities closed access to the Strip.
The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has welcomed the statement and urged all countries and international organisations to turn the consensus into concrete steps to hold Israel accountable for its actions against Palestinian civilians.
Humanitarian suffering in Gaza has reached unimaginable levels, with famine unfolding before our eyes. Urgent action is needed to halt and reverse starvation.
