Expect empty seats at Ellis Park for Bok Test
CEO Rian Oberholzer says SA Rugby has hit its crowd target for Saturday’s match between the Springboks and Wallabies at Ellis Park, despite tickets still being available.
The 62,000-capacity stadium will host the much-anticipated 2025 Rugby Championship opener, but like the July Tests against Italy (in Pretoria and Port Elizabeth) and Georgia (in Nelspruit), it will not be a sell-out.
A look at the Ticketmaster seating map shows that seats remain across all sections of the lower bowl, priced from R1,750 to R4,000, as well as in the Upper East and West Stands (R1,050 to R2,650). A small number of R1,050 tickets are also available in two sections of the Upper Northern Stand.
“We’ve hit our targets in terms of budgeting for the event,” Oberholzer said, as quoted by News24, at the launch of Vodacom’s new telecoms sponsorship deal with SA Rugby at Loftus Versfeld on Thursday.
“When we did our forecasts, we worked on an 85% capacity. We’re well over that, and after the United Rugby Championship, we’ll review our programme and how we drove it.
“If we’ve made any mistakes, we’ll rectify them before the season starts next year.”
