Shailen Singh murder: Indictment to be served on Govender brothers

The indictment is expected to be served on murder-accused Ferrel Govender and his brother Darren Govender in the Durban High Court on Friday morning.

The brothers are accused of the murder of Umhlanga businessman Shailen Singh.

Singh was gunned down in a parking lot in December 2024.

It is alleged that Ferrel had killed Singh in a hail of bullets over a love triangle – that Shailen had been involved in a romantic relationship with his girlfriend.

The brothers handed themselves over to the police on January 1, 2025.

Ferrel, the owner of Pro-Secure and father of three, has been in custody since his arrest, following many failed bail applications, while his brother Darren is out on R200,000 bail.

The State alleged that they have strong prima facie evidence against both accused.

In an explosive affidavit by lead investigator Warrant Officer Bob Pillay, he told the court that CCTV footage placed both brothers at the scene of the crime and that there was cellphone evidence between Ferrel and Singh minutes leading up to the murder.

Pillay further alleged that Ferrel allegedly shot Singh 10 times.

Shailen’s father, Pradeep Singh, has called for justice for his son’s murder.
