Meeting with Putin was productive: Trump – SABC News

US President Donald Trump says his Russian and Ukrainian counterparts Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskyy want him to attend their future meeting.

He has told a US television station that proposals for the two presidents to meet have been forwarded.

Trump also says he’ll soon call European leaders to tell them about the outcome from his summit with Putin in Anchorage, Alaska.

No ceasefire has been announced but Trump has suggested that more summits are likely.

It’s unclear what the meeting achieved other than to have cemented a personal bond between President’s Trump and Putin, Trump citing progress and Putin mentioning an agreement reached that would help bring them closer to a path to peace in Ukraine but no details on what that means exactly.

They took no questions from a room packed with journalist’s champing at the bit.

Trump said that while they made some headway towards a deal, “there’s no deal until there’s a deal”, calling the meeting productive.

Putin said the negotiations took place in a respectful, constructive and mutually beneficial atmosphere, calling the personal meeting between heads of state long overdue after bilateral relations fell to their lowest level since the cold war.
