Mitchells Plain Safety Plan welcomed by Cape Safety Forum – SABC News

The Cape Safety Forum has welcomed the launch of the Mitchells Plain Safety Plan, which seeks to reduce violent crime through intervention programmes and community engagement. Chairperson, Abie Isaacs, says the plan signals a strong need for a multifaceted approach where NGO’s and government commit themselves to a safety process.

The engagement follows a recent spate of gang-related shootings which saw a number of people being killed.

“Somebody needs to acknowledge that the previous safety plan, the 2014 – 2019 safety plan, was a complete failure because it was the government forcing a plan to the community. It was developed somewhere. This process, however why we buy into this process as the Cape Safety Forum, because it’s an approach involving civil society, FBO CBO’s have got a clear indication in terms of that,” explains Isaacs.
