Mpumalanga Acting Police Commissioner Zeph Mkhwanazi says those who are killing police officers are declaring war against the state.

He was speaking at the funeral service of Sergeant Lawrence Mtshweni in Schoemansdal, Nkomazi.
Mtshweni was gunned down during a robbery on a business premises in the area on Friday last week.

Mkhwanazi has paid tribute to Mtshweni, describing him as a brave officer.
“As we honour Sergeant Mtshweni, today. I want to call upon each one of you my fellow officers sitting here, to remember the sacrifices made by our own brothers and sisters in uniform. Our responsibility as the protectors of the law come with inherent danger. To members currently working day and night to bring justice for Sergeant Mtshweni and his family, I commend your dedication,” says Mtshweni.
