Edu Dept confirms 6-year-old pupil’s death after ‘freak accident’
The Gauteng Department of Education has confirmed the tragic passing of a six-year-old Grade R learner from Letsatsing Primary Mine School in Carletonville, following a freak incident that happened on Friday (15 August 2025).
According to the department, the learner allegedly sustained serious injuries while she was boarding a scholar transport bus on Friday morning to go to school.
The child was rushed to Carletonville Hospital for medical attention; however, she unfortunately passed away later that afternoon due to the seriousness of her injuries.
Department spokesperson, Steve Mabona says the psycho-social support will be provided.
“The circumstances surrounding this accident are being investigated by the law enforcement agencies. Our officials will be visiting the family on Sunday, 17 August 2025, to convey our condolences accordingly. Psycho-social support unit will be made available to the school community, learners, and educators and that will also be extended to the family.”
