Inferno at Greyhound Depot: Three buses destroyed in mysterious blaze
A fire ripped through Greyhound’s depot in Jet Park, Boksburg, on Sunday, gutting three buses and a trailer in a sudden and unexplained blaze.
Emergency services rushed to the scene on the East Rand as thick smoke billowed from the facility.
Firefighters from Ekurhuleni Emergency Management Services (EMS) worked swiftly to contain the flames, preventing further destruction.
Two buses were saved and driven to safety.
EMS spokesperson Eric Maloka confirmed no injuries were reported.
“Fire was well contained and put to rest by our fire crews in conjunction with ACA fire rescue; their rescue and water tanker were on site.
“Two buses managed to escape the fire and were driven to a safer area,” Maloka said.
Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) were also on site, coordinating efforts to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby infrastructure.
As Greyhound is a major player in South Africa’s long-distance transport sector, questions are mounting about the impact of this incident on its operations and passenger services.
The cause of the fire is being probed.
