South Africa's weather forecast: What to expect this week
South Africans can expect a week of changing weather patterns as winter’s chill collides with warmer conditions across the country.
According to South African Weather Service (SAWS), Monday kicked off with mostly fine and cool conditions in the central and western regions, while warmer weather lingers in the far north. Light showers are expected over parts of Limpopo and Mpumalanga, with a 30% chance of rain extending into KwaZulu-Natal’s northern coastline.
Winds will sweep strongly across many provinces, adding to the chill in areas like the Free State and Eastern Cape.
By Tuesday, the weather takes a turn as clouds gather along the southern coast, bringing isolated showers and a 30% chance of rain around the Eastern Cape interior and coastal belts.
The Western Cape braces for colder air moving inland, while KwaZulu-Natal remains partly cloudy with a small chance of showers, especially around Durban and Port Shepstone. Northern areas, including Limpopo and Mpumalanga, will warm up under partly cloudy skies, while much of the interior holds steady with cool daytime conditions.
Wednesday maintains the unsettled trend, with rain chances again around 30% along the east coast stretching into KwaZulu-Natal and parts of Mpumalanga.
The Cape provinces will feel the bite of colder, windy conditions, particularly in the southwest where strong gusts push across Cape Town and the Overberg. The interior, including the Northern Cape and Free State, will enjoy clear but cool days, while Gauteng expects mild weather under partly cloudy skies.
The week ahead promises a mix of warm sunshine, cold winds, and occasional showers, with rain chances peaking at 30% in eastern and southern coastal areas. Residents should brace for shifting skies as winter continues to remind the country that it has not loosened its grip just yet.
