Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula corruption case postponed for consultation
The corruption case against embattled former Speaker of Parliament, Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, has been postponed to November 21, 2025, by the Gauteng Division of the High Court in Pretoria.
The postponement was granted to allow her attorney to consult with her on the docket provided by the State.
In a statement released by IDAC on Monday, it said: “Her attorney indicated that they may file representations with the office of the National Director of Public Prosecutions pending the outcome of the consultation process.”
Mapisa-Nqakula is facing a total of 12 counts of corruption and one count of money laundering.
The charges fall under the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act (Preca) and the Prevention of Organised Crime Act (Poca) respectively.
She is accused of soliciting R4.5 million from a defence contractor, with the State’s case alleging she received R2.5 million.
It is also stated that R2.1 million was allegedly received as cash from a service provider. The prosecution has indicated they know “what the money received was used for”.
The former minister of defence and military veterans was previously released on R50,000 bail in April. According to her, this was the maximum she could afford as a pensioner. The State had initially requested R100,000 bail.
As part of her bail conditions, Mapisa-Nqakula was ordered the following: Hand over her passport to investigators, which she has complied with as well as not contact the State’s witnesses, either directly or indirectly.
The Investigating Directorate (ID) of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) confirmed in April that she had been provided with the list of witnesses the State plans to call to substantiate the charges.
Mapisa-Nqakula’s previous court appearance in April came hours after she handed herself over to police.
Her R50,000 bail has been extended until her next court appearance.
