City of Joburg confirms Helen Botes no longer employed amid controversy

City of Johannesburg (CoJ) has confirmed that the controversial former Johannesburg Property Company (JPC) CEO, Helen Botes, was no longer employed by them.

In a statement seen by IOL, City spokesperson Nthatisi Modingoane provided clarification on the employment of Botes.

“The City wishes to confirm that Helen Botes is not an employee of the City of Johannesburg or the Johannesburg Property Company (JPC). Consequently, the City is not in a position to comment on matters pertaining to Botes,” he said.

Modingoane mentioned that it was important for the city to be transparent about such matters.

“The City of Johannesburg is committed to transparency and accountability in all its dealings and will continue to cooperate fully with any investigations or inquiries related to this matter,” he said.

In December, Mayor Dada Morero was accused of allegedly working behind the scenes in a bid to appoint Botes as city manager following the departure of Floyd Brink earlier this month from the post.
